Since earning an MFA from New College of California in 1996, Hoa Nguyen has produced ten books and chapbooks of poetry, including As Long As Trees Last, Red Juice: Poems 1998-2008, and Violet Energy Ingots from Wave Books. She has performed and lectured at numerous institutions, including the Bagley Wright Lecture series, Hamilton College, University of Maine, St. Mary’s College of California, the University of Colorado, and Brown University. A highly regarded teacher of creative writing, Nguyen appears regularly at Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program and, in addition to Ryerson University, teaches for Miami University’s low residency MFA program and at the Milton Avery School for Fine Arts at Bard College. As a public proponent and advocate of contemporary poetry, Nguyen has been featured as writer for Harriet, a blog of the Poetry Foundation, and has had her work profiled on the PBS News Hour. Additional attention to her writing has been promoted through publications in Granta, PEN American Center, Boston Review, The Best Canadian Poetry series, The Walrus, The New York Times, and the Academy of American Poets.
