Submission Guidelines

Agape Editions believes in the power of spirit as a force for positive connection. In keeping with our beliefs, we seek to broaden our community through featuring a variety of writers and genres on our blog. Beginning in December, Agape will open to submissions of poetry, short fiction, hybrid forms, and lyric essays. Twice a month, we will publish one piece on our blog. Submissions will remain open through February 28, 2018.

Agape Editions’ mission statement describes our team’s vision and labor. We suggest that all authors familiarize themselves with our focus and purpose as part of deciding whether Agape might be a good home for their art. And, as an inclusive publishing group, we particularly encourage writers from underrepresented or marginalized groups to submit work.

The guidelines provided below are specifically regarding the submission of creative work for publication on the Agape Editions blog. We encourage all authors who are interested in publishing with Agape to send a packet (or a pitch) of work that we might consider for blog publication. Agape Editions is not currently open to unsolicited submissions of book-length or chapbook-length manuscripts.

 

To submit work for the Agape Editions Blog:

Send 3-5 poems (one poem per page), or a pitch of up to 250 words for a prose piece (fiction, non-fiction, lyric essay & hybrid forms are welcome). Please note in your 250-or-fewer-word pitch the length (word count) of the prose piece in its entirety. We are open to reading prose pieces of varying lengths, although longer pieces may be split into separate blog posts.

Submitted work must be previously unpublished. While we welcome simultaneous submissions, we expect that authors will immediately withdraw simultaneously submitted work from other markets upon acceptance.

Submissions should be uploaded to email as a Word attachment.

Within the email, include a brief cover letter and a bio of up to 150 words. Attach an author photo.

Submission emails should be addressed to Agape Editions Blog Manager Jessica Walsh, via jessica@agapeeditions.com.

The email subject should read “BLOG SUBMISSION /GENRE/TITLE/AUTHOR NAME.”

Agape Editions does not charge reading (or any) fees to authors who wish to submit work to our blog.

We expect to reply within 3 months. Please feel free to contact us with a polite follow-up note if you have not heard anything after three months have passed.

As a small, volunteer-run, and fairly new nonprofit org, we are currently not able to offer monetary compensation to those whose work we publish (although we do wish we were able, and hope that someday in the future that may change).
